Legal
Procedures Students Hear From Assistant D.A.
In late June, Erie County Assistant District Attorney Erin Connelly
presented an overview of criminal law procedures to students in
EBC's Legal Procedures class. As part of her presentation, Attorney
Connelly walked students through the criminal law process from
arrest to trial to sentencing and provided informative handouts
to clarify her points. She also discussed her assignment to sexual
assault and domestic violence cases and described how difficult
dealing with these types of crimes can be, particularly when they
involve children.
Legal Procedures student Kayti Hannah commented on the value
of the presentation, saying, "It's great for students to hear how
what they learn every day in the classroom is applied in the working
world." Her classmate, Heather Cornwell, was equally receptive
to the presentation. "Our instructor is an excellent teacher, and
by bringing in Attorney Connelly, Mrs. Delio shows that she cares
about our education," Heather said. "I was very impressed with
Attorney Connelly's knowledge and enthusiasm for what she does."
Attorney Connelly has volunteered to return to EBC to speak to
future classes, and she also invited students to visit the Erie
County Court House during trial term to observe a trial.
